Share Your Skills with the PTA πŸ’›

Many hands, many talents β€” all welcome.

Not everyone has time to help at events β€” and that’s absolutely fine.
The PTA also relies on skills, experience and know-how that can often be shared flexibly, from home, or just once or twice a year.

If you have skills in any of the areas below β€” even at a basic level β€” we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need to be an expert, and there’s no pressure to commit long-term.

Skills We’re Looking For

1. Strategy, Funding & Administration

Helping the PTA run smoothly and sustainably behind the scenes.

These skills help keep the PTA organised, compliant and financially secure β€” often without needing to attend events or meetings.

This might involve:

  • Helping draft or review grant applications
  • Researching potential funding opportunities
  • Advising on or reviewing simple budgets
  • Supporting bookkeeping or cash tracking around events
  • Helping with admin tasks such as notes, records or simple forms
  • Assisting with risk assessments or compliance paperwork
  • Offering experience from governance, policy or regulated environments

Most of this support is occasional or one-off, and can often be done from home. Even small contributions can unlock significant funding or reduce workload for the core team.

2. Planning, Organisation & Coordination

Keeping events and activities organised and stress-free.

If you enjoy organising, planning or keeping things running smoothly, these skills are invaluable to the PTA.

This could include:

  • Helping plan parts of an event (layouts, timings, stall plans)
  • Coordinating volunteer rotas
  • Creating or managing checklists and schedules
  • Helping with logistics, deliveries or timings
  • Keeping track of equipment, storage or supplies
  • Liaising with suppliers such as stallholders or service providers

Support here can range from one small task to helping oversee a specific area of an event β€” always with clear expectations and support.

3. Creative, Design & Content

Helping us communicate clearly and make things look great.

Creative skills help the PTA reach families more effectively and make events feel welcoming and professional.

This might involve:

  • Designing posters, flyers or signage
  • Creating reusable Canva templates
  • Writing or proofreading short pieces of content
  • Taking photos at events
  • Filming short clips or highlights
  • Editing simple videos for social media or the website

You don’t need to be a professional β€” just comfortable creating or improving visual or written content. Many tasks are remote and flexible.

4. Digital & Technical Skills

Supporting the PTA’s online presence and tools.

Digital skills help keep information accessible and communication running smoothly.

This could include:

  • Making small updates to the PTA website
  • Advising on layout, clarity or accessibility
  • Helping manage or schedule social media posts
  • Reviewing engagement or reach
  • Supporting email or newsletter content
  • General IT or tech troubleshooting

Most help here is practical and task-based, not ongoing maintenance β€” and often takes less time than people expect.

5. Practical, Build & Hands-On Skills

Physical help that saves time, money and effort.

Hands-on support is hugely valuable, especially around events.

This might involve:

  • DIY or carpentry for stalls, signage or storage
  • Repairing or improving existing equipment
  • Installing or setting up signage
  • Helping with sound, microphones or screens
  • Supporting event setup and pack-down

These roles are ideal for people who prefer doing rather than meetings, and are usually time-limited and clearly defined.

6. On-the-Day & Front-Facing Roles

Helping families feel welcome, supported and included.

These roles make a huge difference to the atmosphere of PTA events.

This could include:

  • Welcoming families at entrances
  • Helping people sign in or find their way
  • Answering basic questions
  • Managing queues or flow
  • Supporting stalls or raffles
  • Helping with cash handling on the day

No specialist skills are needed β€” just a friendly, approachable manner. Shifts are short and well supported.

7. Community, Outreach & Fundraising

Building relationships and growing support.

These skills help strengthen the PTA’s links with the wider community.

This might involve:

  • Approaching local businesses for donations or support
  • Sourcing raffle prizes or sponsorship
  • Helping build partnerships with community groups
  • Suggesting or trialling new fundraising ideas
  • Gathering feedback from families

Great for people who enjoy talking to others or making connections, and often works well as occasional outreach rather than regular tasks.

8. Inclusion, Wellbeing & Accessibility

Making sure everyone feels welcome and considered.

These skills help ensure PTA activities work for as many families as possible.

This could include:

  • Advising on accessibility or inclusion
  • Supporting sensory-friendly adjustments
  • Reviewing communication for clarity or tone
  • Suggesting ways to engage families who may feel less confident attending events

Often this input is advisory, but it has a lasting positive impact across the school community.

9. Flexible & One-Off Support

For those who want to help without a regular commitment.

If you want to support the PTA but can’t commit regularly, this category is especially for you.

This might include:

  • One-hour tasks
  • One-event help
  • Behind-the-scenes preparation
  • Reviewing something and giving feedback
  • Stepping in when extra help is needed

Short, flexible contributions are just as valuable as ongoing roles.

Don’t See Your Skill Listed?

That’s absolutely fine.
If you have experience, ideas or talents you think could help the PTA β€” even in a small way β€” we’d still love to hear from you.
